What you'll do:

  • Evaluate new customer accounts by conducting thorough credit assessments using scorecards, financial statements, trade references, and relevant reports to recommend appropriate credit limits.
  • Ensure all account opening documentation is complete and compliant with company policies while maintaining clear communication with sales and management regarding credit decisions.
  • Conduct periodic reviews of existing customers based on payment behaviour, financial performance, and current credit exposure to monitor status against approved limits and raise early warnings.
  • Provide recommendations on adjustments to credit limits or suspension of accounts as needed, preparing monthly credit risk reports for management review.
  • Draft, update, and implement comprehensive credit control policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and control frameworks that strengthen internal processes and comply with audit requirements.
  • Lead the collections team by establishing clear targets and KPIs to ensure timely collection of outstanding receivables while resolving disputes promptly to reduce Days Sales Outstanding (DSO).
  • Prepare detailed ageing analysis reports and closely monitor high-risk accounts to mitigate potential losses.
  • Identify high-risk accounts proactively and recommend mitigation actions such as implementing credit insurance or collateral arrangements where applicable.
  • Collaborate with sales, finance, and operations teams to resolve customer disputes impacting payments efficiently.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly performance reports on credit control activities, analysing trends in receivables, bad debt provisioning, and customer behaviours before presenting insights to management.

What you bring:

  • A degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or a related field provides you with the foundational knowledge required for this role.
  • At least 5–8 years of experience in credit control within a trading or manufacturing environment demonstrates your practical expertise.
  • A deep understanding of end-to-end credit control processes enables you to manage complex workflows efficiently.
  • Proven experience drafting and implementing robust credit policies shows your commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Exceptional analytical skills paired with meticulous attention to detail allow you to assess risks accurately.
  • Proficiency in using credit assessment tools such as CTOS or CCRIS ensures thorough evaluations of customer profiles.
  • Strong communication skills enable you to convey complex information clearly across multiple stakeholders.
  • Stakeholder management abilities facilitate effective collaboration between sales, finance, operations, and collections teams.
  • Leadership experience is advantageous as it equips you to guide the collections team towards achieving targets.
  • Experience preparing detailed reports on credit control performance supports data-driven decision-making.
