Finance Manager (food wholesaler)

Save job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Finance Manager (food wholesaler) to join a thriving organisation in Penang, where you will play a pivotal role in shaping the financial future of the business.

This position offers you the chance to oversee all aspects of finance operations, from cash flow management to spearheading fund-raising initiatives, while working closely with the director and founder as a trusted finance business partner. You will be instrumental in driving revenue growth and supporting strategic decision-making, making this an ideal role for someone who is passionate about making a tangible impact on business performance. The organisation values collaboration, open communication, and professional development, providing a supportive environment where your expertise will be recognised and your contributions truly matter.

  • Take ownership of the entire finance function, ensuring robust processes and controls are in place to support sustainable business growth and operational excellence.
  • Work directly alongside the director (founder) as a key finance business partner, contributing valuable insights and recommendations that shape the company’s strategic direction.
  • Enjoy a collaborative workplace culture that prioritises teamwork, knowledge sharing, and ongoing learning, empowering you to develop your skills and advance your career.

What you'll do:

As Finance Manager (food wholesaler), you will be entrusted with comprehensive responsibility for the organisation’s financial health. Your day-to-day activities will involve close collaboration with senior leadership to deliver insightful analysis that supports strategic planning. You will be expected to manage complex cash flow scenarios with care while also taking initiative in sourcing new funding opportunities that align with long-term business objectives. By maintaining rigorous internal controls and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, you will help build trust both internally among colleagues and externally with stakeholders. Your ability to prepare clear financial reports will enable informed decision-making at every level of the organisation. In addition to these core duties, you will play an important role in mentoring less experienced team members—sharing your knowledge generously so that everyone can grow together. Success in this role means not only safeguarding the company’s finances but also actively contributing ideas that propel the business forward.

  • Oversee all aspects of finance operations including budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and compliance to ensure accuracy and transparency across the organisation.
  • Manage day-to-day cash flow activities by monitoring inflows and outflows, optimising liquidity, and implementing effective treasury strategies.
  • Lead fund-raising initiatives by identifying potential funding sources, preparing proposals, and liaising with financial institutions or investors as required.
  • Collaborate closely with the director (founder) to provide financial analysis and insights that inform key business decisions and drive revenue growth.
  • Develop and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure adherence to regulatory requirements at all times.
  • Prepare timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for management review, highlighting trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Support audit processes by coordinating with external auditors, preparing necessary documentation, and addressing any queries promptly.
  • Identify areas for process improvement within the finance function and implement best practices to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

What you bring:

To excel as Finance Manager (food wholesaler) in this organisation based in Penang, you will bring substantial hands-on experience managing end-to-end finance operations within a dynamic setting. Your background should include direct involvement in cash flow oversight as well as exposure to raising funds through various channels. You are comfortable working side-by-side with senior leaders—translating numbers into meaningful narratives that guide business strategy—and have honed your ability to communicate complex information clearly across diverse audiences. Your technical proficiency spans budgeting, forecasting, statutory reporting, compliance matters specific to Malaysia’s regulatory landscape, and process optimisation within finance teams. Beyond technical skills alone, your approachable manner helps build trust quickly; you value collaboration highly; you are always willing to share knowledge; you support others’ growth; you are committed to ethical conduct; you take pride in delivering work of consistently high quality even when under pressure; you see yourself as part of a team striving towards shared goals.

  • Demonstrated experience overseeing full-spectrum finance operations within a commercial environment, ideally including exposure to cash flow management and fund-raising activities.
  • Proven track record of collaborating effectively with senior leadership teams or founders as a trusted finance business partner.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data sets into actionable insights for non-financial stakeholders.
  • Excellent understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting standards, and regulatory compliance requirements relevant to Malaysian businesses.
  • Experience preparing detailed budgets, forecasts, management accounts, and statutory financial statements under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to identify process improvements within finance functions while maintaining high standards of accuracy and integrity.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills that foster positive relationships across departments through clear communication and empathy.
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development demonstrated by relevant qualifications such as ACCA/CPA/MICPA or equivalent (preferred but not essential).
  • Previous experience supporting audit processes or liaising with external auditors or banking personel would be advantageous.
