A leading public-listed real estate and property developer is seeking a Chief Investment Officer (REIT) to play a pivotal role in the establishment and long-term success of a newly formed Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) based in Selangor. This is an exceptional opportunity for you to shape the financial foundation of a major property platform, working closely with the CEO and Board to build a robust finance function from the ground up. Your expertise will be central to developing comprehensive financial strategies, structuring capital, and ensuring full regulatory and governance compliance. The organisation offers a highly competitive salary package ranging from RM300,000 to RM360,000 per annum, reflecting their commitment to attracting top-tier talent. You will benefit from flexible working opportunities, generous training and development programmes, and the chance to work within a supportive leadership environment that values knowledge sharing and mutual support. If you are passionate about building high-performing teams and driving sustainable growth in the real estate sector, this role provides the perfect platform for your next career move.
* Shape the financial future of a newly established REIT by partnering directly with executive leadership and influencing board-level decisions.
* Enjoy flexible working opportunities, generous compensation, and access to ongoing professional development within a supportive and inclusive organisational culture.
* Play a key role in sourcing investment assets, structuring capital initiatives, and ensuring best-in-class governance while fostering trust among stakeholders.
What you'll do:
As Chief Investment Officer Real Estate Investment Trust based in Selangor, you will be instrumental in shaping both strategic direction and operational excellence for this newly established REIT. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve collaborating with executive leadership on high-impact financial strategies while overseeing all aspects of regulatory compliance. You will have the unique opportunity to build out an entire finance function—designing policies from scratch, implementing efficient processes across multiple disciplines (accounting, FP&A, treasury), selecting systems that drive efficiency, recruiting talented professionals who share your passion for knowledge sharing and mutual support. In addition to managing complex transactions such as fundraising rounds or asset acquisitions within regulated environments, you will also serve as a key communicator—distilling intricate financial concepts into actionable insights for diverse audiences including Boards or external partners. Your ability to foster trust among stakeholders through transparent communication will be essential as you lead investor relations activities. By monitoring market trends relevant to real estate investments and championing continuous improvement initiatives within your team, you will ensure that best practices are consistently adopted as the REIT matures. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in collaborative environments where growth leadership is valued just as highly as technical expertise.
* Collaborate closely with the CEO to develop comprehensive financial strategies, capital roadmaps, and optimal REIT structures while serving as a trusted advisor at Board meetings.
* Drive the end-to-end process of REIT setup including structure formation, regulatory submissions, governance frameworks, and ongoing compliance in accordance with Malaysian laws by working alongside compliance officers, advisors, trustees, and regulators.
* Source potential investment assets through rigorous evaluation; lead business case development and deal execution to build a sustainable acquisition pipeline that supports long-term growth objectives.
* Plan and execute equity or debt funding initiatives; proactively manage cash flow while maintaining banking relationships and ensuring adherence to covenants for optimal liquidity management.
* Establish the entire finance function from scratch with assistance from senior finance colleagues by designing policies, implementing efficient processes, selecting appropriate systems, recruiting talent, and mentoring a lean yet effective team across accounting, FP&A, treasury, and tax disciplines.
* Oversee all aspects of financial reporting including monthly closes, audits, external disclosures; implement practical internal controls and dashboards that support informed decision-making at every level of the organisation.
* Communicate effectively with investors, lenders, trustees, partners, and other stakeholders by crafting clear financial narratives that foster trust and transparency throughout all interactions.
* Lead investor relations activities with support from senior finance staff by preparing presentations and reports that articulate the REIT’s performance story to both internal management and external parties such as analysts or rating agencies.
* Monitor market trends relevant to real estate investments; provide timely recommendations on portfolio adjustments or new opportunities based on thorough analysis of industry developments.
* Champion continuous improvement initiatives within the finance function to ensure best practices are adopted as the REIT matures.
What you bring:
To excel as Chief Investment Officer (REIT) in Selangor, your background should reflect significant senior finance leadership experience gained within either real estate investment trusts or large-scale property development environments. Your proven ability to build high-performing teams from inception—including designing policies and implementing systems that enhance efficiency—will set you apart. Experience leading complex transactions such as fundraising rounds or asset acquisitions is crucial given the regulated nature of this sector; familiarity with Malaysian regulatory frameworks governing REITs is essential for seamless compliance. Direct engagement with key industry bodies like Securities Commission Malaysia (SC), Bursa Malaysia as well as trustees or rating agencies will enable you to navigate stakeholder relationships effectively. Your communication skills must be exemplary—you should feel comfortable translating intricate financial concepts into clear narratives tailored for Boards or external partners alike. Adaptability during periods of organisational transformation is vital; your builder’s mindset will help guide your team through ambiguity while championing continuous improvement initiatives. A CMSRL (REITs) qualification would be beneficial but is not mandatory if you bring equivalent experience from similar roles. Above all else, your commitment to fostering an inclusive team culture—where knowledge sharing and mutual support underpin every success—will ensure you thrive in this collaborative environment.
